River (aka Ribber) replaced?
May 3, 2010

After two weeks of hearing about Max’s memorable encounter with River (Ribber- see previous post)  it is possible that Ribber’s reign (no pun intended) as favorite horse has come to an abrupt end.

Enter “Chief”.

Leave it to the annual May Fair (and the carousel of “Patsy’s Ponies”)…. We decided to stop by during a family run (without wallets) and Max spotted the ponies. He immediately ran up and introduced himself “Hi Horsies. How are you?!?!” Luckily we saw our neighbors (who also have a kid and “get it”) and were able to borrow $5. Max rode all by himself (with a death grip on the saddle horn) atop Chief. To Adam and I, Chief’s stature was pale in comparison with tall, dark, handsome River. Measuring in at about 4 foot (they put him on the smallest one) it was nearly laughable. But to Max, this was his first ever solo ride on a horse… and anything but laughable. He talked NON-STOP on Chief (e.g. I am riding Chief… Daddy- I am riding a horsey…. Hi horsey- how are you… Max is riding horsey…) and left quite an impression on the operators.   So when we returned today (yes, we did) he was greeted (by name) by Patsy and her son: “Hi Max- you back to ride Chief?” This time we planned ahead and brought Max’s cowboy boots (which he calls his “cowboy shoes”). He wore those cowboy shoes with his shorts.

This is Oklahoma, after all.
